4Good sturdy construction. Smaller than I was expecting, though.

I found this table listed, and given I have an 8yr old and a 4yr old, I thought I'd take a stab at this, because the age range was from 3-8. So I got it in, and put it together tonight. When I took it out of the box, I was surprised that the wood used was fairly high quality. A lot of things like this I've put together were made out of particleboard, or some other weak kind of wood. Not this. VERY high quality on the wood pieces. They went together well, and after I finished putting them together, they didn't have that "wobbly" kind of feeling that some kid furniture does. So that's good. My kids can be tough on this kind of stuff sometimes, so a sturdy feel goes a long way.

After I did get everything together, I realized that this is small. I know the item's description here gives the dimensions, but that's one of those things that doesn't click in your head until you get it together. It's unfortunately TOO small for my kids. My eight year old is right out. My four year old could probably use it, but it still seems too small for him. We have a similar style table and chair set up in the main living room, and I got this for a secondary one in his bedroom. However, we may not be able to use it because it is seemingly TOO small. Which is REALLY strange, because the items weight rated to 300 pounds! How on earth anyone small enough to use this would weigh that much is beyond me. It can't be pnts, because these too small for adults.

If you aw of the size going in, and your kids of the proper age (I think the upper limit should be 5, not 8), then this will do well. It was easy to put together (and I'm the kind of guy who usually swears at household projects, not finish them), and once together it felt QUITE sturdy. Just too small.

If the size was more in tune to the 3-8 yrs recommended in the description, I'd give this a five stars. I knocked one off because of the sizing issue.

A side note. When I went to write this review, I got asked four questions by get. The first two were humorous to me.

1) How much fun is this toy? Uh, it's a table. It's not a "fun thing".
2) How would you rate this toy's educational value? Uh, it's a table. I'm not sure if there is educational value!

4A high end table set that runs a tad small...

I snatched this up the minute I saw it because it just looked like the perfect craft table for my kids. I have a six year-old who is just starting 1st Grade and a three year-old who is getting in the swing of learning thanks to her big sister. I wanted a nice table they could sit at and draw and color and paste and cut and do all those awesome things they want to do and move that mess off of my dinner table. I'm tired of clearing the table of their papers before we can eat.

The first thing I noticed when taking this out of the box was that it was very sturdy wood. This isn't your flimsy wood that you can crack and snap and will wear and tear quickly. This is a nice quality table and chairs. The second thing I noticed was that it was really, really easy to put together. You do have to emble it, but a screwdriver is all you need. The piece fit rather nicely (all but one hole that was slightly off center and needed some serious elbow grease) and I had the whole thing (table and both chairs) together and ready for use in a matter of thirty minutes (and that's only because of that last pesky screw).

Once it was together I took a step back and noticed how small it is. This isn't a major complaint, but it is one to raise since this says it is for children ages 3-8 and I don't see how my kids will be able to sit here together with coloring books spread open. It is a small space, and while there IS room for two to sit and color there isn't a lot of room and so there is bound to be some fighting over elbowroom. Still, it fits nicely in my daughter's bedroom and so I guess I'm a fan of the small size (albeit I see the detractor).

I like the light finish. It has a soft look, perfect for a nursery or kid's room.

My biggest complaint has nothing to do with the actual piece but the way that the piece is packaged, or more specifically the way that it is labeled. This is a serious irritation. Each piece is labeled with a sticker that has a letter on it. These big stickers and they do not come off easily. They tear and need to be scrubbed to get the glue off of the wood. It's a serious pain, takes forever (since there nearly thirty stickers on the completed pieces) and should have been avoided. They could have labeled the packaging instead of the actual pieces so that you didn't have to spend another thirty minutes cleaning the thing off after embly.

But really, that is cosmetic. It's irritating, but once it was done and over with the finished product wasn't affected. It's a sturdy, pretty table and chairs and my kids super excited to use it! I'd give it an extra star if it were a tad bigger (I really think that this is small for two big kids) and if the sticker situation were different. Still, it is a high quality piece and I certainly recommend looking into it if you in need of a table for your little ones.

5I like it! Kids will like it, too!

The UPS guy was perspiring and short of breath after climbing the stairs to my second floor apartment to deliver the box containing Melissa and Doug's Wooden Table and Chairs.

I dragged the box into the doorway, sliced it open with a pair of scissors, pulled the table out of the box, and heard a bag of screws fall to the floor, followed by all those parts in need of embly.

"Oh, no," I thought. "Putting this together is not going to be pleasant."

There's the table which is nice and sturdy with a pleasant wood scent, but then you've got all sorts of pieces marked B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, and L to screw in. When lying on the floor before me, they all looked a little too much alike.

All this embly looked to be a major pain in the anatomical part where such pains usually felt, but it was actually fairly easy to emble both the table and chairs, and the end result is impressive.

This is a quality product, and both sturdy and safe enough for the children for whom it is intended. I don't know how much "fun" this would be for kids, but I can imagine them sitting at this table without having to climb a chair that's taller than they , and doing the kind of things that kids sometimes like to do: draw, cut and glue things together, use Play Doh, etc. I'm sure that most kids would enjoy having a table and set of chairs that is for their use alone.

If you don't have children, the chairs unnecessary, but the table could be used to prop up your feet or to hold a lamp, small television set, a computer, or coffee cup.

I like it.
