4Suprisingly Durable
@_*P. Pond
I have an obsession with water bottles at my house. I have a plethera! I have 2 kids (4 and almost 2), and they each have 4-5 water bottles each that I keep out and filled with water to drink from all day. I've used Nathan, CamelBak, Playtex, The Safe Sippy, Gl Factory, etc. I have not tried Kleen Kanteen b/c I don't like the sippy top for kids they have. My favorites up to this point for my kids the camelbak bottles b/c of the non-leakable bite valve and the fact you can close them so the mouth piece isn't exposed all the time...and I have them in stainless steel, which they don't make for little kids anymore. :(

Anyway...I found this Contigo and decided to give it a try. I got it for my 21 month old little girl who chews EVERYTHING! Her camelbak bite valve has already had to be replaced b/c she not only chews it, she also sticks her finger in the opening and plays with it which tore and created a huge opening in it and it started leaking everywhere. Arg!

The Contigo has held up nicely after 2 months of continuous use and washing. The bite valve portion has no evidence of bite marks and she can't stick her finger down the opening so it's in perfect condition and doesn't leak at all! My little girl also loves the fact she can close and open it all by herself, which I was surprised she could do. The straw does have a tendency to fall out of the valve opening in the lid, but it doesn't happen enough to be annoying. I refill it a couple of times a day to keep fresh water in it and just push it in before I screw the lid back on. Not a big deal.

I did read some people complained the bite valve came off, but my 4 year old little boy attempted to remove it one day and before I found him he had pulled it pretty hard but it never came off, it shifted up a little but I just pushed it back down and it does fine.

The only thing I would change about this bottle would be to make one in stainless steel. I'm mostly a stainless steel or gl water bottle person. Even though these bottles BPA free...they just use another chemical, BPS, to harden the plastic. So, it's only a matter of time before we also find out BPS does the same things BPA does. So, I would REALLY prefer to use stainless steel.

So...if I could put in a request to make this my "All Time Favorite" water bottle it would be make it stainless steel. Other than that I have no complaints about this water bottle...I and know my water bottles. :)

2Only Good For Water - Food Safety Concerns
@_*Daniel G. Lebryk
The Contigo Autospout water bottle is very cool, from a food safety standpoint use extreme c with this.

This water bottle should be labeled with great big warnings, only use this with water. Never use it with anything but water. From a food safety standpoint, this water bottle has way too many nooks and crannies to trap juice or food and allow bacteria to grow, harborage zones. This water bottle is a fantastic idea - design something that is super rugged with cool colors that doesn't leak. Just about the most perfect thing in the world for children.

My big concern with this water bottle is the complex valve system and connection for the straw on the inside. Wherever there places for liquids to be trapped that difficult to clean, there is an opportunity for bacteria to grow. This is one of the most complex silicon valves I have ever seen. There three major parts to hold the straw in place. The most susceptible to harborage is the tiny check valve inside the yellow plastic hold down device. That valve has a bump with a tiny moat around it where cleaning is extremely difficult. There exposed triangular screw heads in the cap that will also retain liquid. The silicon seal for the cap is extremely difficult to remove and also allows liquids to get up underneath. The tube in the spout where a child sucks to get liquid is virtually impossible to clean out. And the whole a where the sippy cup straw folds back is a maze of harborage zones - almost impossible to clean.

If this cup is used for milk, clear juice, sport drinks, or anything else containing sugars, it is almost impossible to hand clean this lid. That liquid with sugars will remain in the lid and bacteria will grow. I have used this cup once for chocolate milk, did what I thought was a thorough rinsing / washing; brown bacteria has already grown in two places overnight. Yes it is possible to clean this with the optional brush available from the manufacturer, and putting it in the dishwasher might help. But in the end, no busy pnt is going to run this through the dishwasher between every single use.

I'm sad that the design is so complex. This bottle is down right cool. The colors beautiful. I love the ruggedness; I threw this on the floor many times and could not break it. When clipped closed, the cup will never leak. Open, the cup can drip a little bit, but nowhere near the amount a normal cup will leak. I love the closure, it snaps down nice and tight. The quick release-opening on is fantastic.

My son figured out a really funny thing to do with this cup, and it has the potential with older children to annoy their pnts. When you first suck on the straw, there is a little whistle noise. He figured out how to do that over and over again until he got a reaction out of me. He is 17 years old.

Everything about this cup is fabulous. Except it is just not safe to use for anything but water.

5Best water bottle ever for kids!
@_*E. A. Gharagozlou
I've got about 40 different "kid" drink bottles/cups. These THE BEST I have found yet. I bought the orange for my 3-1/2 year old destructive boy, I bought the pink for my 6-year old daughter. These do not leak, the kids think it is fun that they get to pop open and close up the water bottles. Easy enough for them to handle, the carry handle is convenient also.

Same as other users have said, the straw will sometimes slip out if dropped. I ONLY use this for water, so I can't speak about stains, or other beverages in it. I find it very easy to clean - especially since all that goes into it is water. Little hot water and some Dawn detergent, and it is very easy to clean.

My daughters, I cleaned too vigorously one night and knocked out the "leakproof" ring. If that does get knocked out, the bottle will absolutely leak if tipped over.

LOVE THESE BOTTLES!!!
